Proper insulation is the key element for a more comfortable and enegy efficient home. It is very important to have a continuous boundary of insulation between conditioned indoor spaces & unconditioned outdoor spaces which is referred to as building envelope that consist of walls, floors, ceilings or roof. Levels of low insulation, gaps or voids will provide paths through which heat and air can flow in and out of your home. Care must be given in shaping the insulation material around piping and electrical work without compressing it. Moist air can invade the building envelope and condense on cold surfaces which will cause damage to the insulation and to the structure. Different areas have different code requirements for insulation depending on what area you live in. Before adding or getting insulation, the most important step is air sealing before you even think of insulating. Air flow HAS to be stopped in order for insulation to work properly.
